Electrical Panels & Power Distribution

Transformers, switchgear, panels, busbars, cables, generators and UPS: the complete power chain, engineered, supplied and commissioned by one team.

01Overview

Supply and engineering from one team

The electrical department covers the power chain from the grid connection to the final circuit. Powersense supplies each element and engineers the whole: network study, protection coordination, panel design and verified installation.

04Delivery process

From requirements to handover

  1. 01

    Network study

Load flow and short-circuit currents are calculated to IEC 60909 at every busbar, which fixes the ratings of all downstream equipment.

    DeliverableNetwork study report
  2. 02

    Grid connection and transformer rating

The transformer is rated from maximum demand, growth, losses and the grid operator's connection terms under IEC 60076-1.

    DeliverableConnection data sheet, transformer specification
  3. 03

    Protection coordination

MV relays and LV breakers are coordinated so that only the device nearest to a fault trips (IEC 60947-2 for LV devices).

    DeliverableCoordination curves, settings list
  4. 04

    Distribution design

Busbars, cables and trays are sized for current, voltage drop and fault withstand, and assemblies are verified to IEC 61439.

    DeliverableCable and busbar schedules
  5. 05

    Backup power

Generators and UPS are sized for the critical load, starting currents and autonomy, and connected through transfer or synchronisation panels.

DeliverableBackup power sizing note, transfer logic
  6. 06

    Testing and handover

Insulation, earthing and protection tests are completed to IEC 60364-6 and the as-built documents are issued.

    DeliverableTest records, as-built documents

05Standards

International standards applied

These standards form the technical basis for design and equipment selection. The exact set is confirmed for each project against the national regulations in force.

  • IEC 60909-0Short-circuit currents in three-phase AC systems: calculation of initial, peak and breaking currents.
  • IEC 60076-1Power transformers: general requirements, ratings, temperature rise and tests.
  • IEC 62271-200AC metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear for rated voltages above 1 kV and up to 52 kV.
  • IEC 60947-2Low-voltage circuit-breakers: ratings, breaking capacity, tripping characteristics and selectivity.
  • IEC 61439-1Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies: general rules and design verification.
  • ISO 8528-1Reciprocating internal combustion engine driven generating sets: application, ratings and performance.

06Project types

Technical notes and FAQ

How is a transformer rated?

From the maximum demand with allowance for growth, the load profile, vector group, impedance, losses and the grid operator's terms. The choice is then checked against the fault level of the network.

Why does selectivity matter?

Only the device closest to a fault should trip. Discrimination limits of the breakers are checked against the fault levels of the network study, so that one faulty circuit does not shut down the building.
