Industrial Fans & Ventilation Systems

Axial, radial, jet and smoke-extraction fans selected from the duty point, with Ex-proof and acoustic options.

01Overview

Supply and engineering from one team

Powersense supplies axial and mixed-flow fans, duct and roof radial fans, acoustic fan boxes, high-pressure axial fans, smoke-extraction and jet fans, and Ex-proof models, and engineers the selection from airflow, pressure, noise and fire duty.

02Scope and process

Engineering scope and deliverables

  1. 01

    Airflow and ventilation rate

The required airflow is derived from occupancy, heat gain, process emission or the smoke-control scenario.

    DeliverableAirflow schedule
  2. 02

    System pressure loss

Duct, filter, damper and outlet losses are calculated to establish the system curve.

    DeliverablePressure-loss calculation
  3. 03

Fan selection at the duty point

The fan curve is matched to the duty point with a margin for filter loading, using performance data tested to ISO 5801.

    DeliverableFan selection sheet
  4. 04

    Fire duty and temperature class

Smoke-extraction fans are classified by temperature and exposure time under EN 12101-3, and jet fans are checked for thrust (ISO 13350).

    DeliverableFire-duty specification
  5. 05

    Noise, vibration and explosive atmospheres

Acoustic fan boxes or attenuators are applied in occupied spaces, and Ex-proof models in classified areas (EN 14986).

    DeliverableAcoustic and Ex specification
  6. 06

    Control, CFD and commissioning

Variable-speed control and fire-scenario logic are programmed, CFD is applied where needed and airflow is measured at commissioning.

    DeliverableControl schedule, commissioning report

03Standards

International standards applied

These standards form the technical basis for design and equipment selection. The exact set is confirmed for each project against the national regulations in force.

  • ISO 5801Fans: performance testing using standardised airways.
  • ISO 12759Fans: efficiency classification.
  • EN 12101-3Smoke and heat control systems: specification for powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators.
  • ISO 13350Fans: performance testing of jet fans.
  • EN 14986Fans designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres: design requirements.
  • ISO 13347Industrial fans: determination of fan sound power levels.

06Technical notes

Technical notes and FAQ

Why is the catalogue size not enough to select a fan?

A fan delivers airflow that depends on the pressure it works against. It is correctly selected only if its curve crosses the system curve at the required airflow, with margin for filter loading.

How are smoke-extraction fans classified?

EN 12101-3 classifies powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators by temperature class and exposure time. The class required is set by the fire-safety concept of the building.
