Products we supply

UPS Systems, Rectifiers & Solar Inverters

UPS systems, rectifiers and solar inverters sized for the critical load, the required autonomy and the connection point.

01Overview

Supply and engineering from one team

Powersense supplies single-phase, three-phase and modular UPS, rectifiers and battery chargers, and solar inverters built to IEC standards, and engineers the supply: load and autonomy calculation, redundancy, battery room and grid connection.

02Scope and process

Engineering scope and deliverables

  1. 01

    Critical-load analysis

Loads in kW and kVA, power factor, inrush and crest factor are listed, and critical and non-critical circuits are separated.

    DeliverableCritical-load schedule
  2. 02

    UPS rating and autonomy

Rated power, battery capacity for the required run time and efficiency are selected under IEC 62040-3.

    DeliverableUPS and battery sizing
  3. 03

    Redundancy architecture

A single, N+1 or modular parallel arrangement is chosen for the required availability, with bypass and maintenance paths defined.

    DeliverableSingle-line diagram
  4. 04

    DC supply and batteries

Rectifiers and chargers for substations, pipelines and cathodic protection are sized for load and battery charging, with battery-room ventilation to IEC 62485-2.

    DeliverableDC system calculation
  5. 05

    Solar inverter and grid connection

The inverter is sized against the PV array and the connection point, and grid-connection requirements and anti-islanding are checked (EN 50549-1, IEC 62116).

    DeliverablePV single-line diagram, connection study
  6. 06

    Monitoring and commissioning

Status and alarms are mapped to the BMS or SCADA, and autonomy, transfer and PV tests are recorded at commissioning (IEC 62446-1).

    DeliverableCommissioning report, test records

03Standards

International standards applied

These standards form the technical basis for design and equipment selection. The exact set is confirmed for each project against the national regulations in force.

  • IEC 62040-3Uninterruptible power systems: method of specifying performance and test requirements.
  • IEC 62485-2Safety requirements for secondary batteries and battery installations: stationary batteries.
  • IEC 62109-1Safety of power converters for photovoltaic systems: general requirements.
  • IEC 62116Photovoltaic grid-connected inverters: anti-islanding test procedure.
  • IEC 62446-1Photovoltaic systems: requirements for testing, documentation and maintenance.
  • EN 50549-1Generating plants connected in parallel with distribution networks: requirements for connection to the LV network.

06Technical notes

Technical notes and FAQ

How is UPS autonomy calculated?

From load power, UPS efficiency, battery voltage and capacity at the discharge rate, with a margin for battery ageing and temperature.

What does N+1 redundancy mean?

One more module than the load requires, so a module can fail or be serviced without the load being dropped.
