Cable Trays & Cable Management

Galvanised cable trays, ladders and accessories, sized for cable weight, fill and support spacing.

01Overview

Supply and engineering from one team

Powersense supplies cable tray systems with bends, junctions, supports and fixings, and engineers the routes: load class, width and support spacing, segregation of power and data, and coordination with other services.

02Scope and process

Engineering scope and deliverables

  1. 01

    Cable inventory and fill

Cable types, diameters and weights are listed for each route, and spare capacity for future cables is planned.

    DeliverableCable inventory
  2. 02

    Tray width and load class

Width and load class are selected from the total weight per metre and the safe working load of the system (IEC 61537).

    DeliverableLoad and width calculation
  3. 03

    Support spacing and fixings

Support spacing and bracket loads are checked for deflection and for the capacity of the building structure.

    DeliverableSupport layout
  4. 04

    Segregation and EMC

Power, control and data routes are separated or screened to limit interference (IEC 60364-5-52, EN 50174-2).

    DeliverableSegregation matrix
  5. 05

    Corrosion protection

The finish is chosen for the environment: hot-dip galvanising (EN ISO 1461) for industrial and commercial interiors, other materials on request.

    DeliverableMaterial specification
  6. 06

    Installation and earthing

Expansion joints and the bonding continuity of metallic trays are checked at installation (IEC 60364-5-54).

    DeliverableInstallation record

03Standards

International standards applied

These standards form the technical basis for design and equipment selection. The exact set is confirmed for each project against the national regulations in force.

  • IEC 61537Cable tray and cable ladder systems for cable management.
  • IEC 60364-5-52Selection and erection of wiring systems: current-carrying capacity, installation methods and voltage drop.
  • IEC 60364-5-54Earthing arrangements and protective conductors: earth electrodes, PE conductors and equipotential bonding.
  • EN 50174-2Information technology cabling installation: planning and practices inside buildings.
  • EN ISO 1461Hot-dip galvanised coatings on fabricated iron and steel articles.
  • IEC 60364-5-51Selection and erection of electrical equipment: common rules, including external influences.

06Technical notes

Technical notes and FAQ

How much spare capacity is planned?

A reserve for future cables is agreed with the client at design stage and recorded in the tray fill calculation, so circuits can be added without replacing the route.

Why are power and data cables separated?

Parallel runs couple interference into signal cables. Segregation distances or screened trays, as described in EN 50174-2, reduce it.
