HVAC

HVAC Systems & Industrial Ventilation

Industrial fans, ventilation and smoke-control systems, selected from the duty point, engineered, automated and installed.

01Overview

Supply and engineering from one team

The HVAC department combines fans and control equipment with the engineering that sizes them: heat load, airflow, smoke control and CFD verification, followed by control programming and measured commissioning.

03Delivery process

From requirements to handover

  1. 01

    Heat load and ventilation rates

Indoor conditions and outdoor-air rates are set under EN 16798-1 or ASHRAE 62.1, and loads are calculated for each zone.

    DeliverableDesign criteria, heat-load summary
  2. 02

    Duty point and fan selection

Airflow and system pressure loss define the duty point, and the fan is selected where its curve meets the system curve.

    DeliverableFan selection sheet
  3. 03

    Smoke-control concept

Extraction rates, make-up air and temperature class are defined under the EN 12101 series and the fire-safety concept.

    DeliverableSmoke-control concept, scenario matrix
  4. 04

    CFD verification

Airflow and smoke movement are simulated in the real geometry to confirm fan positions and escape-route conditions.

    DeliverableCFD report
  5. 05

    Control and automation

Fan starters, dampers and detector signals are integrated in a control panel that runs each ventilation scenario.

    DeliverableControl narrative, I/O list
  6. 06

    Commissioning and balancing

Airflow is measured against the design, each scenario is tested with the fire alarm and the results are recorded.

04Standards

International standards applied

These standards form the technical basis for design and equipment selection. The exact set is confirmed for each project against the national regulations in force.

  • EN 16798-1Energy performance of buildings: indoor environmental input parameters for ventilation design.
  • ASHRAE 62.1Ventilation and acceptable indoor air quality: minimum outdoor-air rates.
  • EN 12101-3Smoke and heat control systems: specification for powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators.
  • ISO 5801Fans: performance testing using standardised airways.
  • ISO 13350Fans: performance testing of jet fans.
  • EN 14986Fans designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres: design requirements.

05Project types

Typical project types

  • Car parks and underground garages
  • Industrial facilities
  • Commercial kitchens and malls
  • Hotels and hospitals
  • Hazardous (Ex) areas
  • Plant and technical rooms

06Technical notes

Technical notes and FAQ

What is a duty point?

The airflow and pressure at which a fan operates in the real system, where the fan curve crosses the system curve. Fans are selected for that point, not for nominal catalogue size.

When are Ex-proof fans required?

In areas classified as hazardous under IEC 60079-10-1. The fan and motor category must suit the zone, as set out in EN 14986 and the ATEX Directive.
